Versace Haute Couture Spring 2012

Posted by thekellytang On 8:59 AM 6 comments

It has been a long while since a fashion collection has left me giddy and wanting more. I am in love with Versace's Haute Couture Spring 2012 collection. I didn't really enjoy the H&M collection, and I thought it was a bit over-hyped. But this futuristic, femme fatale glam look is to die for! Not only that but wasn't lace going out of fashion? Versace seems to have revived it in a modern, and feminine way. And plus I have a strong weakness for cut outs, check out the yellow mini dress! Eep.. the fashion in 2012 is already looking up! :)

What do you think? Love it or Hate it? I'd love to hear your thoughts! <3

Making of the collection

Wow, I've been crazy busy. I have been sewing for the past week, and getting my first collection together for DC fashion week. It was an amazing experience, and I'm truly grateful for everything I've learned throughout this whole process.

I have photos to come of the actual fashion show, which will be in a week or so. But for now, here are some photos of the making of the clothing!

I wish I had taken more pictures of the process behind the whole thing. But I was really on a time crunch!

I'm in love with this song right now!! Ah! :) Thank you for all the lovely comments, I am trying to get back to everyone today, including email and everything too!

Fashion Focus: Rei Kawakubo

Rei Kawakubo is truly an inspirational fashion designer. Creator and designer at Comme des Garcons. Her story behind her life as a designer. And how being a designer and a businesswoman is the same thing. Which I completely agree with. I also really enjoy how she partners with non fashion  people because most fashion people just stay with fashion people. I truly believe we have to expand and grow outside the realm of fashion. And that is a concept that I want to reach and create with in mind.

On becoming a designer: "The decision to first of all think of creating something that didn't exist before, and then after that to give the creation form and expression in a way that can be made into a business. I cannot separate being a designer from being a businesswoman. It's one and the same thing for me."

"In five years we have opened 37 different guerrilla shops with nonfashion partners in unheard-of places or in parts of cities hitherto untrammeled. By partnering with nonfashion people, and requiring that we open only for one year, and limiting the amount of money spent on each shop, we brought a breath of fresh air to retail. And it generated enormous sales! We were selling only the stock we already had locked up in the warehouse anyway."

I don't feel too excited about fashion today. People just want cheap fast clothes and are happy to look like everyone else.  - Rei Kawakubo
I also highly agree with her in terms of the excitement in fashion today. Nothing really excites me like before, because everyone settles for looking the same as everyone else. :/ The interview can be found here: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424053111903918104576500263503794504.html#ixzz1Wes4cEbl"

Truly an inspiration for all designers to learn from and hopefully grow from.

What do you think of her philosophy?

L.A.M.B Spring 12'

Posted by thekellytang On 9:11 AM 9 comments

I always love Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B. collection and this season is no different. Granted, I feel as if the color palette and style are more geared towards fall. I still love the use of various African and striped prints, its not to over the top like some of the other collections I've seen. Relatively simple silhouettes that have pops of color in all the right places. L.A.M.B is perfection for the spring and can definitely be mixed into your fall wardrobe.

Whats your favorite from LAMB?

I hope everyone's weekend was amazing. I had a great time in Richmond, although I definitely failed on the photo taking part. :) And I have a fashion show coming up next week, so I will be sewing my life away. :) Have an amazing week!

Jason Wu - Spring 12'

Jason Wu always has a way of creating something very wearable that all women will want to wear. I am adoring the digital prints, especially in the blue, on the bottom left. It seems this year's spring 2012 collections are also much brighter, using a light chartreuse tone, and a pinky pink. I also love the asymmetrical hem lines, it makes for a dreamy and sexy look. Also, the makeup with the bright orange-red lips, is also very fresh and spring ready!

How do you like Jason Wu for Spring 2012?
